Anchorage is a fabulously picturesque, winter setting for new years eve, with fire and ice as the main themes for the big party in town as stunning fireworks contrast against the snowy scenery.
Wrap up warm and pack those thermals for spending the New Year in Anchorage. Alaska's biggest city is an outdoor lovers dream come true, from glaciers to mountain trails you can see some breathtaking scenery during your visit.
Take to the Alaska Railroad and create some wonderful memories as you make your way through some beautiful terrain. Or get some epic views of the surrounding mountains and hanging glaciers, when you take the Alyeska Aerial Tram to the top of Mt. Alyeska.
For the adventure seekers, you can of course enjoy the winter sports, skiing, snow boarding, ice climbing, get action packed with heli-skiing or jump on a snow bike and take to the trails.
If you're looking for something a little less heart racing, then there are art galleries and museums to peruse, including Anchorage Museum, or do a little indoor shopping at Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall and grab a glass of wine to unwind.
Most people will be heading downtown from around 7pm - 9pm in Easy Park, Chinook Lot. This is a great place for family fun, including an outdoor dance party, live entertainment, topped off with the official fireworks display at 8pm that will light up the night sky over Anchorage.
Don't miss the torchlight parade at Girdwood, Alyeska Resort. The parade starts at 8.30pm and you can watch the skiers and snowboarders coming down the mountain (descending if you want to get posh!) There are also fireworks here after the procession.
If you're looking for some lively night life, many of the bars and restaurants will be holding their own New Year events, from Razzle Dazzle balls to the annual celebration at the Dena'ina Center.
