Should you be planning to celebrate New Years Eve in Bucharest, you'll probably already know that it's gonna be cold, so make sure you grab your thermals before hitting the streets and exploring.

The city has a wealth of magnificent architecture to peruse, from the traditional buildings of the Old Town to the splendour of Parliament Palace and if you have some time, venture to Caru' Cu Bere a fabulous gothic revival building that is now a bar and restaurant, incredible inside and out.

Bucharest has lots of lovely parks for winter wonderland style walks or icesktaing, then you can heat up in on the city's many tea rooms or grab a cup of mulled wine from local vendors to really get that internal central heating going.

Book lovers, you must visit Carturesti Carusel, with a huge collection of over 10,000 books and is stunning inside. Spread over 6 floors, it also has an art gallery and a bistro on the top floor!

There is the wonderful Christmas Market in Piata Constitutiei, open until 26th December with around 100 stands with festive produce from local artisans, decorations and a food area. Don't miss the magic house of Santa where the kids can meet Santa and the Elves, have a ride on the carousel and there's the open air ice-rink for everyone to enjoy.

If you are in need of thawing out and just want a little rest and relaxation, pack your bathing suit and head on over to Therme, a thermal spa that keeps the water at a balmy 33 degrees and you can just bathe away those aches and pains. Sounds like bliss.

New Years Eve Parties & Events

There are many places in Bucahrest where people are drawn to for Revelion (New Years) including George Enescu Square, Parliament Palace (Piața Constituției), and outside the Romexpo.

Even if there are no official outdoor events, you won't be disappointed with the choice of fantastic indoor parties around Bucharest and there are always impressive firwork displays acriss the city.
