Cardiff hosts a popular free new years eve party at the city's famous City Hall, with an evening of food and live entertainment leading up to the fireworks over the bay at midnight.
Cardiff is a city well known for liking a party so it will come as no surprise that new years eve, or Calennig as it's known here, is no exception, with locals and visitors alike taking to the many bars, restaurants and hotels to join the party to welcome the new year in style.
Head down to the City Hall in central Cardiff on new years eve, where the Winter Wonderland provides the focal point of the festivities. The Winter Wonderland takes place throughout the festive season in Cardiff, with the new years eve party, fairground and, of course, the fireworks being one of the most popular events.
Attractions to draw the crowds include an always popular outdoor ice rink, which is open for skating from 10am throughout the holidays, while the family funfair, including the Big Wheel.
On new years eve the live music normally takes place on a stage set up in front of City Hall from around 7.30pm and continues right through the night until midnight, when there will be the spectacular new year fireworks display.
Elsewhere in Cardiff, if the big public party isn't your thing, then you might like to check out the annual Black and White New Years Eve Gala Ball at St David's Hotel on Cardiff Bay, where there is a champagne reception followed by fine dining feast and live entertainment.
