New Years Eve in Christchurch will be an amazing experience for anyone planning to visit, especially those from abroad, offering some top parties to choose from, great hotels and restaurants and of course a fantastic fireworks display when midnight arrives.

With around 15 hours of daylight at this time of year, you can really make the most of your time here, from hiking gorgeous scenic trails, walks in the beautiful botanic gardens, or perhaps you're feeling a little Edwardian nostalgia and opt for some punting along the River Avon.

Take time to jump on one of the adorable Heritage trams or head out of the city and down to the beach to top up your tan. (Remember your sunscreen, sunbathe responsibly now!)

For the art lovers out there, you are in for a treat. Venture over to Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu. This beautiful gallery holds an impressive collection so you can wile away the hours perusing the exhibitions.

If you like to do a little shopping (which I do, I do, I do) New Regent Street should be on your list of places to go. It's a lovely, picturesque, pedestrian area, so no traffic to contend with! Stop by here for the cafes, grab a gelato and enjoy some boutique shopping.

North Hagley Park NYE Fireworks

Many people head over to North Hagley Park for the New Years Eve, family friendly, party which starts around 6m. It's a great place for entertainment, live music and of course, the fireworks!

Isaac Theater Royal Festive Christmas

It's perhaps a little difficult to get into the Christmas spirit with all this sunshine, but the department store Ballantynes, at City Mall, pulls out all the stops for their Christmas Window display and if by chance you are in town early enough, the Isaac Theatre Royal will be holding a Christmas Panto, that's bound to get your merry cheer going. NYE Parties

Check out some of the local places for New Year's Eve Celebrations, including: A Masquerade Ball at Cameron's at Bargates, New Year's Eve Fiesta at Bodega on Wick Lane, a New Year's Eve Black Tie Dinner at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa in Mudeford, Dinner and party at The Kings Arms on Castle Street.

There are some great bars and restaurants in Christchurch that will be holding their own New Years Eve events, so check at the venues for menus and to make your reservations. If you're feeling like something a little different for dinner, book a table on Christchurch Tramway Restaurant, which looks fantastic!
