This Croatian city is a visual marvel, with its Old Town and huge stone walls that run nearly 2km around the city which you can, and should, take a walk around, it can get busy in high season, as it's one of the main tourist attractions, but with delightful views it's well worth it. If you try and go just as it opens you should miss most of the crowds.

Jump on the cablecar to Mount Srd with absolutely gorgeous views over the Adriatic and over the Old Town and Lokrum Island, or if you are feeling fit, you can hike up there and then reward yourself with a glass of wine at the top and watch some epic sunsets.

In December, you can enjoy the Christmas Markets throughout the city, head to Sponza Palace and Luza Square where you can enjoy festive food and mulled wine as you shop the stalls.

New Years Eve Fireworks

If you're staying in Dubrovnik for New Years Eve, then you want to make sure you're on Stradun, or Placa, as it's also known, in the Old Town for midnight. This is where thousands of people gravitate towards to see in the New Year and it will be very busy.

The main street comes alive with music, dancing, live bands and of course fireworks that light up the city when midnight arrives sky to cap off an unforgettable night.
