Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands of Scotland, is very much on board with the Scottish tradition of a huge Hogmanay party to welcome the new year, hosting their annual Red Hot Highland Fling, billed as the biggest free fireworks display in the country.
This is where the edge is had over the more famous Hogmanay event in Edinburgh where you have to pay to attend the street party where the best views are available, although technically they can be viewed for free from further afield. We had a fantastic view of the fireworks from the castle, it was incredible!
Inverness is a great city to visit at any time of year, but really comes into it's own over the festive season, with wintry weather and dark nights providing the perfect contrast to the bright Christmas decorations an lively local party spirit.
Very much the highlight of the new years eve celebrations in Inverness, the Red Hot Highland Fling has been taking place as a free event since the inuagural party in 2008. Although, this year it looks like there might be a modest charge come into play to help keep this iconic event going.
Taking place in the city's Northern Meeting Park Arena, on the banks of the River Ness, this party attracts a crowd of over 5,000 to watch live musical performances throughout the evening and of course the spectacular fireworks display when midnight arrives.
There have been some really big name performers in previous years, including the likes of Julie Fowlis and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
