Spend New Years Eve in the beautiful city of Lugano, in the south of Switzerland. Quaintly named the Monte Carlo of Switzerland, this stunning location attracts visitors from around the world, including the rich and famous.

During December you can watch the city as it turns into a winter wonderland with Christmas markets, decorations and lights. If you head to Piazza della Riforma on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays around 6pm in December you can catch some of the live music and entertainment in the square.

There are also many museums and churches to explore while you are visiting, including the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli, Chiesa San Rocco Lugano, Lugano Arte Cultura and Museo Cantonale d'Arte and if the weather is good, there are some lovely parks like Parco Civico Ciani and Parco Villa Florida, so plenty to keep you entertained while you are staying in Lugano.

Piazza della Riforma New Year Party

Lugano knows how to throw a New Years Eve party, so get your coat and get yourself along to Piazza della Riforma for the huge open air party and dance and sing into the small hours along with thousands of other revellers. New Year's Day Parade

If you are not too worse for wear then go and see the parade on New Years Day, leaving from Piazza della Riforma at 11am onwards to Palazzi dei Congressi.
