Finding yourself in Queenstown for New Year is a great
opportunity to not only celebrate, but to get out there and explore.
This resort town has gorgeous vistas of Lake Wakapitu and also
beautiful views of the mountains around it, including The
Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Ben Lomond. It's a stunning place to be.
It's easy to see
why this is a popular destination, not only with tourists but film
makers who found the terrain perfect for films such as Lord of the
Rings, X-Men Origins and 80s classic, Willow!
You are
surrounded by hiking, biking and mountain climbing trails, vineyards
for wine tasting, seven golf courses, white water rafting, canoeing,
boat cruises and for the brave, perhaps a bit of bungee jumping or
sky diving, so much to do!
Of course if you're just looking
to kick back and relax, you can opt for some gentle strolls, café
lunches, stress releasing Yoga and days spent in the spa to really
unwind. There's quite a few to choose from, maybe indulge in a
massage at the Body Sanctum Day Spa or immerse yourself in one of
the Hot pools under the stars at Onsen Hot Pools. Then head to the
lakefront to watch the beautiful sunsets over Lake Wakatipu.
There's really only one place you should be heading to if you
want to party the night away with thousands of other revellers.
Earnslaw Park, at the waterfront normally has a massive free party every year
with live entertainment on 2 big stages, food stalls and fabulous
fireworks. It is an alcohol free zone, but of course there are bars
nearby that you can pop into to get some refreshments, but on the
whole, this is great fun for all the family. Full details
available
here for 2024.
For those who
want to take on the bars, there are a couple of New Year
pub crawls
to partake in, but you'll need to book your place on these in
advance.
The bars and restaurants, like most places, will
have events planned, check with the venue closer to the time to see
tickets/reservations info.
