Guide to new years eve in Sofia, Bulgaria. Top parties, fireworks, restaurants & hotels for NYE 2023-2024

Get out your winter warmers and see in the New Year in wonderful Sofia, with fireworks, parties and some top hotels with new years eve packages and parties available.

With a great selection of historical and architectural delights, Sofia is a great place to come and explore. Wander around the wonderful Alexander Nevsky Cathedral or opt for something a little older with Sveti Georgi (Church of St George) built in the 4th century or seek out 6th century Saint Sofia Church.

Sofia also has a wide range of museums and galleries to investigate including, the National Archaeological Museum, Sofia Art Gallery, the National Museum of History and National Gallery for Foreign Art.

Take a stroll along Vitosha Boulevard form some shopping and grab a drink or a bite to eat in one of the many bars and cafes and watch the world go by.

If you are near the Justice Palace at 11am or 6pm you can join in the free walking tours which lasts around 2 hours and is a great way to see the city.

Battenberg Square NYE Party & Fireworks

(Once again, I can't find any definitive information, but nothing official has been announced for this year). Normally for New Years Eve, people head to Battenberg Square (Knyaz Alexander Battenberg Square) with thousands of other party goers for the annual NYE Concert with great live music, entertainment and of course a great firework display. During the pandemic there was instead a Light Show from the square, but we are hopeful of a return to the festivities this year. Remember to brush up on your dance moves for the dance “horo” so you can join in the fun!

There will however, like always, be fireworks from private residentces all over the city, so you'll still feel the magic of New Year!

Christmas Market

If you are in Sofia early in December, then have a nosey around the German themed Christmas Market, Weihnachtsmarkt, grab a cup of Gluhwein and some traditional German snacks and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The market is usually in the City Garden at Battenberg Square.

New Years Eve Parties

Check out places like Ozone Sky Bar, C'est La Vie Restaurant and club, Sense, Baroteque SLON, Caldo Whiskey and Friends, Bar de Rouge, Rosslyn Central Park Hotel, Intercontinental Sofia, Vienna Cafe & Restaurant, Kopitoto SkyLoft, all plan to have a New Years Eve event.

The best Sofia hotels will be offering grand galas, balls and special new years eve events too, with packages including accommodation, dining and entertainment commonly available. Top hotels to consider include:

Restaurants

Many restaurants will be either closed of offering a special New Years Eve menu, so I would check with the venues and book in advance if you plan in dining out. Many bars and clubs will be open through to the early hours of New Years day!
