With its beautiful beaches, historical buildings and rich culture, the gorgeous capital city of Croatia attracts thousands of tourists to its shores across the festive season, and especially for new years eve. New Year's Eve itself is normally marked with live music and spectacular fireworks.
Visit the old town which is an ancient part of Split, packed with plenty of twists and turns through winding lanes and while you are there, go and explore Diocletian's Palace and the Peristil. Split is just an excellent place to visit if you love Roman history and architecture, there is so much to see. There are plenty of tours to choose from or just get out there and explore.
Get some stunning views from the top of the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius, the tower offers those who make it to the top glorious vistas over the Palace.
Grab a drink or a bite to eat at Riva Harbour, a popular people watching spot. There are cafes and restaurants lining the esplanade for you to stop at and take in the surroundings and watch the cruise ships in the harbour.
Split offers visitors a great New Year Celebration, with their main event on Riva for the big live music concert and party along with fireworks (all free) the fireworks look fantastic over the water.
This years schedule is Grse at 9pm, Doris Dragovic at 11pm and again at 12.10am, Countdaown from 11.59pm and a 7 minute firework display at midnight. Kuzma and Shaka Zulu from 1am until 3am.
Thousands of people crowd here for the annual new year event, so it will get very busy in the narrow streets, but you can party well into the wee small hours of the new year and there are many small shops and bakeries open late into the night too if you get a bit peckish.
The whole city is lit up on New Years Eve, so it's a wonderful time to take a stroll through the streets with everyone milling around.
There are some wonderful hotels in Split, and on new years eve you will find that most of the top venues will also be hosting their own parties, so be sure to enquire as to any packages and deals that they may have available. Top hotels to consider include:
Palace Judita Heritage Hotel
Split Apartments - Peric Hotel
Divota Apartment Hotel
Hotel Villa Diana
Piazza Heritage Hotel
You can search for deals at all of these venues, plus all of the top Split hotels here.
Many of the city's restaurants and bars will be open and have special New Years Eve events and menus planned, so book your table/ticket as soon as you can, as with most places for New Year, the most popular places will book up very quickly.
